WFF: Toy Soldier’s Starting Out A Volunteer Dynasty

brady2moss March 24, 2012 0

First off, give us a quick summary of your chise up to this point.

Well, I took over the Volunteers, who had a lot of very young talents such as Tyler Bray, Justin Hunter, Da’Rick Rogers, Marlin Lane, AJ Johnson, and Curt Maggitt. I knew that seasons didn’t mean all that much, so i focused on getting the best recruiting class I could with what I had available. I found some nice under the radar players like Thomas Wade (3-star) and William Guidry (1-star), as well as some nice 4-stars that managed not to become busts. In year two, it was time for my games to start counting and now with Tyler Bray, and all those young pieces a year older, I was ready. That second was probably my favorite so far as I was able to make it all the way to the Sugar Bowl thanks to two wins over a better Alabama team. I finished that season with a 37-0 win over Georgia Tech in the Sugar Bowl, and was put right into the hunt for the National Championship. And from that point I was ready to take it all in season three with a senior laden team (thanks to Lane Kiffin). Anyway, it was meant to be as I pulled out a couple of thrillers against Stanford and North Carolina early in the season, and from there I was off to a 25-21 come from behind win in the National Championship game over Florida State. Enter season four, exit Tyler Bray, Rogers, Hunter, and the whole crew, and it didn’t start well. I went 1-2 losing to both UNC and rival Florida in heartbreakers. However i was able to reel off the next five games before playing on the road at #3 Mississippi State. That didn’t go as hoped, and i dropped to 6-3, but thanks to a relatively weak SEC East, i was able to climb into the SEC championship with a 9-3 record, and I got another shot at Mississippi State. This time I wouldn’t let them get up early, and after dismantling them, I was back off to the Sugar Bowl to play Kansas State. After a thrilling 39-36 overtime win, I went into the current offseason. Thanks to good recruiting class after good recruiting class, I am going to be back in the National Championship hunt in the upcoming season, and I couldn’t be happier with it.

What made you choose this team?

Unlike most, I loved what Lane Kiffin was doing with the Volunteers while he was there. He actually had them on the right track. Then, in NCAA 10 I just played a dynasty with them, and it was my favorite NCAA dynasty I’ve ever had. Thus, I chose them for this dynasty.

What’s your teams strengths and weaknesses?

Well, this upcoming season I am losing three of my starting four linebackers, and as a defense that is predicated on stopping the run first, that should be a weakness. However I know I have the talent. My Quarterback is someone I really enjoyed playing with, and I was able to convince him to come back for his senior season. He threw 26 touchdowns on only 4 picks last season, while being second on the team in rushing. One of my favorite quarterbacks ever. All round though, there is just so much talent on the team.

Who is your favorite player on your team?

Tyler Rawlins my Quarterback.

Who has been your best acquisition? (through sign/trade)

Well, the top player I ever signed was HB Adam Larsen (#7 overall). As a true freshman he was behind a very crowded backfield, but as a sophomore was able to lead the team in rushing and ran for over 900 yards and nine touchdowns. The only transfer I’ve had was South Carolina linebacker Derrick West. However West just transferred and will have to wait a year before he can play.

Greatest moment in your chise so far?

I didn’t really detail it that well, but the best moment was when Justin Hunter reached behind him to grab the game winning touchdown in the national championship game. When that happened I just had a huge sign of relief.

What other chises do you follow on here?

Well, I don’t really post as much as I should in other peoples, but I love TBMiz’s Vanderbilt dynasty. The amount of work he puts in, and some of his more creative ideas are impressive. I also really like the graphic work Tearz49ers. Maize’s dynasties are all really solid. Soapy;s dynasty was fun to watch while it lasted, and his basketball one is pretty good to. Emac has been one of my all time favorite chisers. Bdawgs (despite him using Michigan), Iron Dragon, Men of Steel, Kevin, and St. Fransisco….and that is just in the NCAA section. And i have to shout out Ghstdr, he puts in so much work and I love that. Some of my other all time favorites are c.f.junkie, matt10, LC, mfbmike, T. Dot, packersfan4eva, Black Ceaser, Rush, Dmac, Lopaka

Also, Darling/JayRock is BY FAR the most annoying.

And that is only the NCAA section

If you could improve/change one thing about DSS, what would it be?

Darling

Have any tips for other chisers?

It’s not really my place to tell other people what to do. I guess just stick with it. Even if you don’t get that many viewers at first, the more work you put in, the more followers you will get.
