Week 6 Picks
Utah State at BYU – 10:15ET, FRIDAY — ESPN
Pick: Utah State 35-31
Why: Chuckie Keeton and Utah State are a missed field goal from 5-0. Keeton is coming off his best performance of the year last week and the sophomore QB completes 68.2 percent of his passes while the Aggies are very balanced on offense.
Arkansas at Auburn – NOON ET — ESPN2
Pick: Auburn 19-17
Why: Arkansas’s defense and coaching sucks too much. Only picking this game because both teams are bad and someone must win (maybe). Auburn’s offense has been brutal this year: 118th in passing, 116th in points per game. I think they will get it done though at home.
Michigan at Purdue – 4PM ET — BTN
Pick: Purdue 28-21
Why: Against ND and Alabama, Denard has accounted for two TDs and seven turnovers. Purdue played Notre Dame better than Michigan. I think Purdue has enough firepower to beat Michigan.
#4 LSU at #10 Florida – 3:30PM ET — CBS
Pick: Florida 21-17
Why: Jeff Driskel has momentum at QB, and LSU’s Zach Mettenberger does not. LSU has not looked impressive in their last two wins, their defense is still good, but I think Florida behind Jeff Driskel gets it done.
#5 Georgia at #6 South Carolina – 7:00PM ET — ESPN
Pick: South Carolina 17-14
Why: Both teams have players on offense and defense. I think both teams defenses will show up in this game a bit more than expected and keep the score down. The loss of Georgia’s top reciever for the season will hurt them more than they are saying it will. I think Connor Shaw is the key to the win for South Carolina.
#8 West Virginia at #11 Texas – 7:00PM ET — FOX
Pick: West Virginia 42-31
Why: Everyone says that Texas’ defense is much better than anything Geno Smith and WVU have seen this year. I don’t think their defense is that great, but an improvement from Baylor. There will be points scored in this game and Geno should end up throwing at least four scores against Texas and take it by more than one possession.
#21 Nebraska at #12 Ohio State – 8:00PM ET – ABC
Pick: Ohio State 34-28
Why: Braxton Miller and Taylor Martinez will be a good QB battle to watch. I think Martinez throws for more, but Miller rushes for more and has more total yards which helps the Buckeyes get a win. Nebraska will score passing as Ohio State’s pass defense has been missing at times.
#23 Washington at #2 Oregon – 10:15PM ET – ESPN
Pick: Oregon 48-23
Why: Oregon’s offense is just too explosive and Washington doesn’t have the offense to stay in a shootout.
Upset Alerts, Week 6
Iowa State over #15 TCU | Why: TCU QB Casey Pachall was arrested and suspended, so redshirt freshman Trevone Boykin is rushed into start late in the week. Boykin has thrown ten passes in his short career. If he struggles, that opens the door for Iowa State.
Miami over #9 Notre Dame | Why: If Stephen Morris has another big game, they can beat Notre Dame in Chicago.
Texas Tech over #17 Oklahoma (at Texas Tech) | Why: Texas Tech beat the Sooners last year and dominate the defensive categories this year so far. If numbers never lie, then Texas Tech should have a shot this week.
