Week 8 College Football Picks

Iron Dragon October 20, 2012 0

Running a day late, sorry about that:

LSU at Texas A&M – I really think A&M can win this game, as long as Manziel continues his hot start. Can the Aggies outscore LSU at home? I’m going with A&M over LSU in this one.

South Carolina at Florida – Marcus Lattimore is not starting this game at RB due to injury. This is a Florida team that two years ago Lattimore stormed on to the scene with 40 carries, 212 yards and 3 TDs. Without him, the Gators should get this one done.

Texas Tech at TCU – Will Texas Tech be able to continue after a big win over WVU? TCU’s new QB Boykin didn’t have a great start vs ISU, but against Baylor’s “defense” did much better in his second start. I think the Red Raiders defense will get it done in this one.

Kansas State at West Virginia – How do the Mountaineers respond to being creamed last week? Collin Klein and Geno Smith may be 1-2 in the Heisman race to some, but both are easily one of the first three or four names mentioned. This game could be high scoring, but I’m going with Klein and K State.

Cincinnati at Toledo – Toledo’s only loss this season was at Arizona week 1 in OT. Terrence Owens is a good QB and they have some playmakers on offense. However, they are giving up 28 PPG including 47 to winless EMU last week. Will Cincy overlook the Rockets as they prepare for a Friday nighter vs. Louisville? This one will be close, but the Cats should win it.

Louisiana-Monroe at Western Kentucky – I don’t care what you say, but the Sun Belt is improving as a conference – 5 teams have 4 wins or more right now. Willie Taggert’s WKU squad in their 4th season in FBS where kept out of a bowl with a 7-5 record last year, and sit at 5-1 this year. ULM was the story of the season to start the year, stunning Arkansas, but then lost to Auburn in OT, and Baylor by 5. WKU’s only loss is to Alabama. I’m going with Kawaun Jakes and WKU at home to get their sixth win of the year.

Upset Alert
Northwestern over Nebraska – Both teams need this game to stay in the Big Ten – Legends race. With Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan as their next three, Northwestern controls their own destiny and I think they take this one.
Duke over North Carolina – I just want to see Duke be bowl eligible. That’s all I’m asking for.
Temple over Rutgers – Temple has three ranked teams in their next four after starting 2-0 in the BE. Montel Harris has suddenly shown up in their last two averaging 137 yards per game and 3 TDs.
