The Top 8 Starcraft 2 Players Go Head-to-Head For $50,000 at Red Bull Battle Grounds New York

In case you haven’t heard, Kim “sOs‘ Yoo Jin won the WCS World Championship this Saturday against Lee Jae Dong for a grand prize of $100,000!

Yea, you read right. That’s One Hundred Thousand Dollars. Does that convince you of how big eSports is becoming?

Anyway, Kim Yoo Jin aka sOs is competing against the top 8 Starcraft 2 players in the world at the Red Bull Battle Grounds in New York City this November 23rd-24th.

The event will take place at the Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom.

Grand prize for this event is $50,000 which is enough for any SC2 player to literally live off of gaming, let alone the $150k that sOs won.

If you would like to attend the Red Bull event, you can purchase tickets at Ticketmaster for $41.50 for an all-day pass as well as a 2-day pass option.

We leave you with the eight competitors at this event:

1. Sasha “Scarlett” Hostyn –  commonly referred to as the “Queen of Zerg” and “The Queen of Blades” is a 19 year old Canadian that started playing only 2.5 years ago. She is considered one of the best North American Starcraft players competing at the tournament and the only female participating.

2. Kim “sOs” Yoo Jin – also known as “Trickster” is a 20 year old South Korean Protoss player who recently won the WCS World Championship as well as BlizzCon 2011 and World Championship.

3. Won “PartinG” Lee Sak – also known as “Rascaltoss”, this 19 year old is a highly decorated Protoss player and has won over $150,000 since the beginning of 2012.

4. Ko “HyuN” Seok Hyun – going by the name of HyuN, this 25 year old former Brood War programmer is one of the world’s top Zerg players. He’s competed in DreamHack Valencia and GSL Season 5.

5. Jo “Golden” Myeong Hwan – a 19 year old Zerg player from South Korea, has lots of potential and finished 1st at the Red Bull Training Grounds in June of this year with a prize of $3,200.

6. Jens “Snute” Aasgaard – this 23 year old Zerg player from Norway has competed in about 17 recorded tournaments with prizes ranging from €500 to $10,000. He’s also a Dance Dance Revolution champion in Norway and a trance/house producer on his spare time.

7. Choi “Bomber” Ji Sung –  At the age of 25, this South Korean Terran player has won a little over $100,000 in tournaments and is sponsored by Red Bull. The only Terran player in the game makes him unique to all the others which may serve him as an advantage. As a Terran player myself, I’m cheering him on!

8. Jang “MC” Min Chulconsidered one of the best Protoss players in the world, this 22 year old South Korean has competed in numerous tournaments including DreamHack Stockholm Invitational, Copenhagen Games Spring 2011, HomeStory Cup IV, and IEM Season VI – World Championship. He’s taken home over $200,000 in prizes since 2011.
