Miami Marlins sign Jose Reyes to 6yr, 106M deal

LC December 4, 2011 0

After some premature reports of Jose Reyes signing to the Marlins, it is now official.  Jose Reyes is now a Miami Marlins, and the Marlins aren’t afraid to spend money.

After signing Heath Bell to a 3yr, 27M contract earlier this week, the Marlins signed Jose Reyes’ to a new contract worth 106M dollars over 6 years, and there is NO no trade clause in this deal, per the Marlins team policy.

The Mets and Brewers were also in the running for Reyes but were not willing to offer more than 80M due to Reyes’ history of injuries.

Even though the Marlins already have arguably the best short stop in the MLB in Hanley Ramirez, he is expected to move to 3B, like what Alex Rodriguez did when he signed with the Yankees.  Don’t expect the Marlins to stop here with spending money either.  The team is still in the running for veteran left-hander Mark Buehrle and even possibly C.J. Wilson. Miami could also sign Cuban center fielder Yoennis Cespedes, another high-ticket free agent.
